The Forward Together Moral Movement Holds Teach-In and Plan-In on Upcoming Moral Monday

Monday, June 23

5 pm

Halifax Mall - behind the General Assembly

16 West Jones St, Raleigh, NC

RALEIGH, NC - The Forward Together Moral Movement enters a new phase on Monday as people from across North Carolina return to Raleigh to challenge the extremist agenda corrupting our state legislature at a rally followed by a teach-in and plan-in at the People's House. The Moral Monday Sit-In, Stand-In, Teach-In, Plan-In, Pray-In will kick off an aggressive statewide campaign of voter registration, mobilization and education in a new Moral March to the Polls Campaign.

"On Monday, we will have held 60 weeks of Moral Mondays since 17 of us first entered the People's House on April 29, 2013 to demand our legislature turn from its devastating attack on poor people and other minorities," said Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II, president of the North Carolina NAACP. "This Monday, we begin a new 18-week campaign, the Moral March to the Polls."

The NC NAACP and the Forward Together Movement will challenge these extremists' attempts to obstruct and silence the people's voice in their government at the General Assembly, in the courts, in the papers and on the streets all through the summer and fall. Young organizers with the Moral Freedom Summer program will join with more than 200 coalition partners to undertake voter mobilization efforts in communities across the state to prepare North Carolinians with the information and resources to vote in November.

This July, the NC NAACP legal team will fight in federal district court for a preliminary injunction to block this repressive voter law from disenfranchising thousands of voters in North Carolina.

At Moral Monday on June 23, people will gather at 5 pm on Halifax Mall behind the General Assembly, located at 16 West Jones St, Raleigh, NC. After an abbreviated program on Halifax Mall, participants will head into the Legislative Building, divide up into breakout groups and hold the Sit-In, Stand-In Teach-In, Plan-In and Pray-In. During the teach-in and plan-in, North Carolinians from across the state will break into working groups to discuss and organize for mass voter mobilization efforts back in their home communities.
